How are you spending your 4th? Are you including your senior? It would mean the world to them, even if it is just to pick them up to view the fireworks.
Our family sometimes can be ‘busy’, walking through the street festivals, or having a cook out, attending parties or whatever the current years activities. I have offered to have my mom attend with us but usually it is hot and can be humid here so she generally declines the festivals. We do, however, include her for the tailgating and fireworks which she greatly enjoys. (And the cookouts of course).
One year we found a shady spot where we tailgated, with finger type foods, played cards and of course, took photos to commemorate the occasion. Another year we parked in a parking lot near an ice cream shop where we went to get ice cream to enjoy during the start of the fireworks.
While waiting Mom has talked about the past July 4th’s, in the City we would attend local fireworks but moving out to the country my brothers would purchase fireworks and set them off behind the house. Sometimes it was just one brother, other times it would be a contest between my 2 older brothers, which of course could be dangerous to them. If my brothers were not there to set of fireworks my parents never left the house so they simply would watch them on TV.
We have talked about going to DC some year to view the fireworks but that would mean a hotel near the fireworks to be seen from the hotel and a year or 2 pre-planning. I don’t believe mom would be comfortable attending with the large number of people or handle all of the jostling that might happen. So perhaps one year soon she might get to check it off her bucket list.
We haven’t done anything super special, as that is not needed. My mom enjoys the ‘simple’ and just being with her family. What are some things that you have done with your senior for the 4th of July?
