In our area, where the transition from ‘small’ town to city is happening quite quickly right before one’s eyes, (or at least for me it is) there are still limited options for public transportation.
Public Transportation
Here there is limited public buses, meaning they run select routes, at select times and don’t go to all the counties surrounding us. BUT the upside is that it goes to most of the places that seniors might frequent.
So how does one go about getting acquainted with the public transportation? Well in our case, Mom’s apartment complex had a transportation tour set up. The driver pointed out the most common places seniors might wish to stop, he let them know what routes they would need to take to get here or there and he let them know that they could also obtain a pass that provides them with reduced pricing on their fares.
To find out more information you can visit the Bus Terminal, someone there should be able to assist you with passes, routes and other information for your specific needs. Locally you can reach out to Fredericksburg Regional Transit
Non-Profit/ Volunteer Transportation
Another option would be to check to see if your area has a Senior Center or Aging Services, our local Aging Services – Healthy Generations was a great resource to get us started. For this posting, they offer a reduced cost transportation service. You must sign up in advance, will be reminded of the pick up and pay for the Mobility Services.
